The new season is just around the corner, and the committee have been working hard on works surrounding the new ground at Silkmore lane, although we know that we will not be able to play there this coming season but everything should be in place for season 2008/09. We are however utilising the ground for training and several practice matches in pre-season warm up. The facilities already in place are New Changing Rooms, Hospitality Unity and Kitchen, Public Toilets and Disabled Toilet. Ball nets have also been positioned to the second pitch and the main pitch has been relaid. Currently all this work has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund, the Staffordshire Environmental Fund and our own internal funds. We are awaiting confirmation from the FA on our application for funds through the Stadia Improvement Fund, which we are hoping will give us the remaining monies required to complete the facilities in time for the season 2008/09 as I have outlined above.
As far as the Management and Team Affairs are concerned we have appointed a new Manager - David Berks who is already making great strides in strengthing the squad through attracting as well as the development of young quality players.
David is an ex-professional spending some of his early years with Aston Villa as well as playing for Stafford Rangers, Hedesford Town and laterly with Newcastle Town in the North West Counties Premier League.
It is David’s first opportunity into management and we are hoping that it will be a sucessfull one with Brocton!
In addition to our first team playing in the Midland Combination, we will be running a U18 Youth team in the County Minor league, together with U16 and U15 teams all under the Brocton Badge.
As we do not have all the facilities available at Silkmore Lane for the first team to play this year, the ground will be used by the Youth teams. The Senior Side will play at Heath Hayes - Coppice Ground where we have played for the last three years.
The committee are very supportive of David in his new role as Manager and are looking forward to a positive and successful season following the direction he is already taking the club, particularly in the introduction of younger players.
