Audley  1 Brocton 4                                                                            Staffs FA Vase Round 2

Audley created the first real threat on goal when their centre forward, taller by 6 inches than any of his rivals and a source of much of the home side’s forward play all game, got through with only Matt sergeant, in goal for Brocton, to beat. The tricky surface played its part as he fought to get full control of the ball before shooting and Dean Rowley got back to clear. No such luck for the home side as Andy Brooks found Jermaine Bowen on the left and Bowen found Andre Campbell drifting in from the right. Campbell’s early poke through to Adam McMahon put McMahon into the area. McMahon did well to keep the ball tight under pressure from two defenders, before he was bundled over and the referee gave a penalty. McMahon took it himself and Brocton went ahead after just 6 minutes.

McMahon almost made it two when Ben Harrison fed the ball forward from the back and Bowen once more slipped it left for McMahon to run on. This time the keeper closed the angle and McMahon found the outside of the post.

Audley were back on terms with the following move on 19 minutes. The ball bounced over Dean Crowley and as Matt Sergeant, spotting the danger, closed the gap, the ball was lifted cleverly over his head.

Honours remained even almost to the break as Audley made good inroads, feeding off the high ball and making good runs beyond Brocton’s back line, but it was Danny McLeod who snatched the lead for the visitors. This time Matt Skinner played the ball all along the left touch line to young Danny Baker, making his first start for the senior team, and Baker did well to find the run of McMahon. McMahon made ground to the edge of the Audley box, before slipping the ball into Danny McLeod’s path from where he struck home.

Jermaine Bowen made the win safe with a strike over the Audley keeper from near the half way line before Adam McMahon won and scored a second penalty right at the death.
