For the second time in the week Brocton found the net on 5 occasions, but this performance was more about the team play even than the goals and eventual score line.
To a man every player was at the top of his game and the fact that for this correspondent the player of the match was Jordan Bloor, a youngster having his first start with the first team, was an unexpected bonus.
Bloor began with a couple of good interceptions, which probably settled any early nerves, then soon went on an overlapping run down the left and getting in a good early cross. As his and then Jack Hall’s crosses went a little deep, they were indebted to the tireless running of front man Richard Miller, who deserved his eventual bit of luck, scoring at the death from a rare keeper error to give Brocton their 5th on the night.
Gary Fife showed his intent on 20 minutes, hitting the bar from long range, before Pershore had a cross of their own tipped on to the bar by Adam Whitehouse. Then Dan Lomas made space and time for Fife with an advancing keeper to beat and this time the chip beat both keeper and bar.
It was on the half hour that the deadlock was broken after a passing move involving practically all of the Brocton side seemed to have broken down. Skipper Matt Skinner though, regained possession and strode into the centre circle. His pass found Fife and this time Fife powered the ball past the keeper and into the net. Rob Winstanley had a rare foray forward and lifted his shot over the bar when the ball ran loose after a corner, but when Fife and Lomas exchanged passes to put Fife free in the box, he once again forced the ball home.
Pershore came out in the second half with a determined mind set and had Brocton reeling and Whitehouse had to be sharp to get to a back pass fro which he was far from favourite. But just 10 minutes into the half another whole team passing move shifted Pershore from side to side and Bloor finished off a fine move with another overlap and a perfect low pass into the box and Fife’s stride. A simple side foot into the net completed the move.
It was Miller’s persistence which won the ball on the hour and Fife’s low cross was met by Richard Jones, marauding from the right flank, but Jones was stretching for the ball and it went harmlessly over the bar. Brocton enjoyed good possession then and the quicksilver runs of Jack Hall continually caused the Pershore rearguard problems.
It was a Fife free kick half an hour into the second period which gave the Badgers their 4th as the keeper did well to punch out only to see Skinner head the rebound back over his head and into the net.
Then came the final effort, almost on time, as a Hall cross fell invitingly to Miller and he accepted the gift his efforts had earned.
